“Keeping in theme with using resources wisely, finalists will be awarded sustainable trophies made with recycled post-consumer materials by plastics manufacturer, Replas.” This years trophies for the winners of the 2020 Resource Smart Schools Awards have been made from 100% post consumer plastic sheeting from Replas. Replas Business Development Executive for Victoria, Kelvin Agg, who designed the trophies with Sustainability Victoria, presented insights from the industry to the engaged students and was thanked by the sustainability leadership team of the school. Cheryl O’Kane from Resource Smart Schools was in attendance and awarded the trophies to Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School in Ocean Grove, who took home two awards – the Community Leadership Primary School of the Year and the Curriculum Leadership Primary School of the Year! Our Lady Star of the Sea was commended for ‘celebrating sustainability with the community’ by impressing judges from their very first EarthFest in 2019. “More than 1700 parents, staff and locals attended the event designed to connect the local community with the environment. Almost 50 stands showcased community projects, sustainable businesses and student advocacy for climate action and conservation.” The school was also presented with a CLEAR Replas Bollard, continuing the awareness the school will share amongst the region. Replas is proud to support Resource Smart Schools and present a sustainable option for the 2020 winners. The mix of plastics in the trophies were coloured bottles and caps that were diverted from landfill.
