The Great Harbour Way—Te Aranui o Pōneke— in New Zealand, is a walking and cycling track around Wellington’s magnificent Te Whanganui-a-tara. From capital city waterfront to rugged coastline, from river estuary to pleasant beachside suburb, the pathway is linked in a joint community/council initiative, which Metal Art, Replas’ NZ distributor, is proud to support.
Recently, Hutt City Council completed a section of the Great Harbour Way on the lower Hutt River. Now cyclists, joggers, walkers, picnicking families and fishers casting their line into the river mouth, can take time out on a Civic seat or an Avalon picnic setting, donated by Metal Art. This furniture is made using recycled-plastic slats from Replas which are ideal in the harsh maritime conditions that the Wellington southerly occasionally throws at it.
The new seats are also environmentally sustainable; the recycled plastic used was the equivalent of 2,400 x two-litre milk bottles, saving a considerable amount of plastic from landfill.
