Skipton, in the western district of Victoria, is known as ‘the home of the Platypus’. At Mt Emu Creek, four seats from a viewing area were swept away during the devastating floods of January 2011.The Corangamite Shire, with the support of the Victorian Government, replaced the seating with Platypus themed Beachcomber seats from Replas.

Steve Hemphill, Flood Recovery Officer with the Corangamite Shire said, ‘as the Mt Emu Creek area is known as a Platypus viewing area, there was overwhelming support for the more modern recycled plastic seats over the traditional wooden seats. The added bonus to these seats as far as the shire is concerned is that there is no ongoing maintenance.’
