At the ever-popular Wynnum Wading Pool, Brisbane City Council recently replaced rotting timber bollards with smart new recycled plastic alternatives. Contractor Origin Fencing Pty Ltd installed 400 Brolga bollards at the heritage-listed site on the foreshore of Moreton Bay in the suburb of Wynnum. The material Replas uses in manufacturing that number of Brolga bollards is the equivalent of 1.1 million plastic bags diverted from landfill.
Wynnum Wading Pool Park is a wonderful attraction for kids, who can safely splash about in the water, or when the tide is out chase the soldier crabs that scuttle across the sand. The shallow oval-shaped pool was built during the Great Depression and opened to the public in 1933. It was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1998.
