City of Cockburn in Western Australia have recently installed recycled plastic dog agility equipment at the new dog park on Briggs Street in South Lake. “This is a lovely facility for residents to safely exercise their dogs off the lead in one of two fully fenced exercise areas. The exercise areas are grassed with doggy water fountains and agility equipment,” Connecting South Lake posted on their Facebook page. Alison Waters, Parks Operations Coordinator for City of Cockburn said they “wanted a mix of agility equipment that is lower maintenance than timber.” Alison saw the benefits of fewer dog scratches on the plastic compared to the metal/wood that was in place before. “[We have a] sustainable procurement policy to promote the use of recycled plastic products,” explained Alison. After the positive response from the community and easy installation process, City of Cockburn is happy to use recycled plastic products in future projects.
