Enduroplank™ ramps up

After seeing Enduroplank™ on a public launching ramp at Drummoyne, John Vitali from NSW, decided to replace the timber on the boat ramp outside his home with recycled-plastic decking. John installed the deck with the help of his brother-in-law and reports that they found the product quick and easy to install. John no longer has to worry about maintenance and is constantly asked about his new slip-resistant boat ramp by envious guests and neighbours.

Long term solution for coastal access

When an existing timber beach access ramp adjacent to the Otaki Surf Lifesaving Club in New Zealand had deteriorated to the point where it was a safety hazard,  Kapiti Coast District Council needed to consider their options. KCDC Planner Stu Kilmister said, ‘We have been looking for

some time at using recycled-plastic products in our parks and elsewhere and the Otaki Beach project presented a suitable opportunity to trial the new material’s benefits.‘We could have simply replaced like with like,’ said Mr Kilmister, ‘but it is a very hard site for treated timber.’ An Enduroplank™ recycled-plastic deck from Replas proved to be the ideal solution in this harsh marine environment.

The use of recycled plastic fits well with the council’s stance on sustainability, however Mr Kilmister said, ‘any new material or process must prove its economic benefit’. Metal Art—the New Zealand distributor for Replas— worked closely with the council to ensure the project brief was met within budget.

"We will be watching the performance of the product closely over the next 12-24 months and will be looking for other opportunities to roll this product out on other beach access ways in future". Stu Kilmister, Planner, Kapti Coast District Council.

Wyndham on track with new staircase

BMX bike riders in the City of Wyndham are now enjoying an upgraded BMX Track at Werribee, Victoria.

As part of the improvements a recycled-plastic staircase has been installed, which makes it easier for race officials to get to the top of the start ramp.

Ramani Dorairaj, from Wyndham City council said they ‘wanted to try using an alternative material from the usual timber/concrete stairs’. Council also wanted to use recycled/sustainable materials and thus be more environmentally friendly. Adding that as a result of this experience they would definitely be keen to use Replas products again.

Kicking goals with Enduroplank™

With tens of thousands of footy fans crossing over the MCG Bridge each month the bridge needed to be able to take more than a little friendly barracking.

Vic Track—a government rail business, responsible for the oldest of three pedestrian bridges linking the busy Melbourne Park to MCG precincts—required a firm to complete a resurfacing project. The wooden planks were covered with marine ply and coated with non-slip compound. However, the marine ply had started to rot, split and twist which caused the non-slip coating to fall off. This created safety concerns and also required ongoing maintenance.

Vic Track decided to replace the marine ply and non-slip coating with Enduroplank™. This has provided them with a great product which has eliminated maintenance costs and improved slip resistance on this highly utilised foot-bridge.

The new decking was quickly and easily installed by a Replas Diamond Club member—one of our many qualified partners whose expertise ensures a quality installation. Vic Track is so happy with the finished product they are considering more projects around Victoria.

New access ramps for surf club

Due to expanding tourist numbers, the observation tower at Queensland's Rainbow Beach Surf Lifesaving Club needed easier and safer access ramps. The solution was to install Enduroplank™ decking and Replas profiles, a long-lasting and affordable solution.

The access ramp took two contractors only one day to install, and required no large equipment onsite. Easy and effective, and just look at the results!

Harsh conditions, no effects

The timber boat ramp at Queensland's Woodgate Beach had deteriorated so badly it needed urgent replacing, something the local council had not budgeted for. As the original wooden support structure was in reasonable condition, the council decided to cut costs by placing our Enduroplank™ decking directly over the timber base, creating a new smooth surface that vehicles can safely drive over to launch their boats.

Recycled plastic will easily outlast wood in these harsh conditions: in another ten years, when the wooden support structure has reached the end of its life, the Enduroplanks™ will be as good as new.
