A Remarkable setting

The District Council of Mount Remarkable in South Australia has given Melrose Memorial Park a makeover with the addition of a range of new Replas seats and settings to replace the previous old tired furniture.

The wonder of recycled plastic

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland has a unique landscape featuring one of the most extensive geothermal systems in New Zealand. However, this harsh environment takes its toll on timber sign posts, fences and boardwalks.

The park is currently trialing a Replas 100 mm bollard in an area that is off limits to the public due to its higher than normal ground temperature. Alex Leinhardt from the park says, ‘In some situations within this harsh environment, the life expectancy of conventional timber is less than in other locations’. If deemed a success recycled plastic may be given consideration as an alternative to traditional timber. According to Alex the bollard, ‘has now been in the ground for about a month and is showing no outward signs of deterioration’.

Four ways to get fit

The City of Melbourne installed four Fitness Trails® exercise stations at Princes Park, Parkville. The four clusters of self-guided equipment feature high-quality graphic instructions which allow for use with, or without, supervision. According to Stuart Nicoll, Project Manager, Melbourne City Council, they were pleased that the signage could be, ‘adapted and reproduced to suit Council's park signage suite design’.
‘The supplier of the recycled plastic equipment, Replas, was well organised in the supply, packing and delivery of the equipment. The accompanying tailored, documentation supplied by Fitness Trails for the set out and erection of the fitness equipment, made for an easy and trouble free installation by local contractors. I have no hesitation in recommending Fitness Trails for similar projects.’ - Stuart Nicoll, Project Manager, Melbourne City Council.

We’ve got the edge

When you need to give your landscaping the winning edge Replas has the solution.

Stockland North Shore is a new residential development 12 kilometres north of Townsville CBD. Landscapers, JMAC, chose to use 40x90 recycled-plastic profiles from Replas to create an elegant finish to local parklands.

Jason Zimmer, Project Manager with JMAC said, the main issue the profiles addressed was that the, ‘Edging doesn’t break down,’ comparing it with timber which, ‘rots after a year or so’.

Lilydale Lake

Lilydale Lake, in Victoria, now features an excellent outdoor exercise facility in this scenic location. Rod Woolley, Play Space and Assets Supervisor, Yarra Ranges Council, said the council has a commitment to the environment and this was a major factor in choosing to install Fitness Trails® stations at six different locations throughout the park and surrounding areas.

According to Rod they have been, ‘surprised by the amount of use that the facility has got, ‘ listing local footy and fitness groups that make regular use of the equipment as well as general passers-by’.

Signed Up for a Sustainable Future!

Boroondara Council has been using Replas products for several years as they are happy with the product in terms of quality and longevity.

When it came to replacing some timber signs that were in dire need of a refresh Chris Hui, Sustainable Transport Officer at the City of Boroondara, says they chose recycled plastic because, ‘Replas products require less maintenance and have a longer life span than the old fashion wooden signs’.

'Replas provide us with quality products and an excellent level of service. They are always open to new ideas and work with us to meet our requirements'. Chris Hui, Sustainable Transport Officer, the City of Boroondara.

Clever move by NZ council

New Zealand Replas distributor Metal Art has worked with Hutt City Council on many projects over the past few years with great success. When new picnic settings were needed at Avalon Park and the Alicetown Community Centre reserve, Metal Art worked in conjunction with the council to come up with a solution. The addition of chess boards to the new recycled-plastic settings was a clever strategy to ensure these parks attract even more visitors in the future.

‘The new tables are a great way to encourage families to spend more time at the park. Avalon is what we describe as a ‘destination park. This means it attracts people from across the Wellington region. We want amenities that will give them lots to do when they get here … the Replas table settings are ideal.’ - Judy Robb, Horticultural Manager, Hutt City Council.

Beechworth ‘falls’ for Enduroplank™

The stunning views at Woolshed Falls, in Beechworth, called for an equally stunning lookout platform.

The previous timber platform had been in place about ten years and had begun to rot and split. Parks Victoria realised they needed an alternative to timber.

As they are committed to using recycled products where practicable, they chose to install an Enduroplank™ deck.

They found this was also a cheaper solution than using galvanised metal grid style of decking. John Mc Donald, Senior Ranger with Parks Victoria says they are now, ‘looking forward to less ongoing maintenance by using the plastic product’.

John also says, ‘he has been surprised by the wide range of Replas products,’ recently purchasing several plastic picnic tables for other projects in the park.

Termite troubles in Northern Territory

The Parks and Wildlife Service in the Northern Territory develops and manages more than 90 parks and reserves, specifically for conservation and nature-based recreation and tourism.

Recently, the Parks and Wildlife Service selected Replas’ round-topped recycled-plastic bollards as their preferred bollard for the region. As termites are a huge problem in the Northern Territory, traditional wooden bollards are only a short-term solution.

Replas is proud to supply the area with a low-maintenance, termite-free solution.

Blue bollards make a splash

Townsville Council, Queensland, recently decided to install a row of blue bollards in Blue Water Park. This vibrant colour is now available across much of our recycled plastic range, injecting a splash of colour to the location.

In addition to the benefits of recycled plastic, grass maintenance has become a simpler task as the cord cuts of a whipper-snipper do not cause splintering and rotting, as they did with the timber posts!
